The Fallen Agent – Oliver Tidy

Ex-Spooks agent Jess Albion has been murdered in prison. Albanian mobster Amir Bashar should be thrilled – but somewhere on earth, Jess is still alive… for how much longer when the British Intelligence and the Albanian Mafia are out to get her?!

A Jess Albion Thriller #1

Amir Bashar realises that his revenge has not been completed when he sees the image of the woman killed. She is not Jess Albion, the one who killed his son and who he will hunt until the end of time. What is more, Bashar has a mole within the British Intelligence, Henry Price, who is prepared to go to extreme lengths to satisfy Bashar’s needs. To Henry Price, it is an ordinary quid-pro-quo situation: he delivers Jess on a plate to Bashar in exchange for the information Bashar has on a biological terror attack on London, a danger Price would give anything to prevent. However, just how far Price will go in humouring Bashar we will have to see….

Rufus Sitwell is now retired but once, he was Jess Albion’s section chief and the one who stood by her when the whole of the British Secret Service dropped her and let her be convicted to ten years imprisonment for murder. Rufus’ involvement in Jess’s safety becomes all too clear now the fake Jess has been murdered in her place. Price feels he has no choice but to give up Rufus’ name to Bashar, fully aware of how Bashar’s men extricate information from unwilling participants. Rufus realises Jess could be in extreme danger and so he contacts the only man who can protect her, a man who had feelings for her, Nick Dart. Sadly, Rufus and Nick will never meet again for Bashar’s men are on to him. It will come as no surprise that Price grabs the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone by claiming Nick Dart is the main suspect for Rufus’ demise. A man who knows how to stay under the radar but who also is aware of Jess’ predicament.

Nick embarks on a race against time to find Jess and to protect and shield her from the murderers Bashar no doubt will send after her. Blissfully ignorant, Jess has a secret of her own. With Nick flying across the world to locate Jess and warn her, Henry Price is in agony. Will he be able to deliver Jess’ body to Bashar and fulfil his promise? Price knows no other way to get inside information on the terrorist attack on London which, according to Bashar, is planned for the foreseeable future. Price cannot leave London and all its inhabitants defenceless against a biological attack and has to trust Bashar who very much has his own twisted agenda. To that end, he plays a dangerous game of life and death – and the consequences will be harrowing. A vicious and murderous plot is developing at a dizzying pace and we can only witness the horrors before us … Will Jess, will anyone, survive?

My Thoughts

As someone who never watched Spooks, the character of Jess Albion was unknown to me. But then again, I have read about the British Intelligence, about how they sometimes, rather than co-operating, work against each other often with devastating unforeseen results. Power and influence are the driving force behind many an action and in Oliver Tidy’s The Fallen Angel, again this heavily influences the main characters, apart from Jess, Nick and Rufus. Jess is someone who has endured quite a lot for her country, who has seen and experienced terrible situations and survived worse. Killing Bashar’s son brought her the prison sentence but her section chief, Rufus, took care of that. I totally loved Jess’s character, she is a strong, independent, and intelligent woman who can take care of her own. Nick is special too – his love for Jess shines through in everything he does.

This thriller is captivating and engrossing, it is superbly plotted and simply a great read! I highly recommend it!

About the Author

Oliver Tidy Author Image

Crime writing author Oliver Tidy has had a life-long love affair with books. He dreams of one day writing something that he could find in a beautifully-jacketed hard-cover or paperback copy on a shelf in a bookshop. He’d even be happy with something taking up space in the remainder bin, on a pavement, in the rain, outside The Works. He found the time and opportunity to finally indulge his writing ambition after moving abroad to teach English as a foreign language to young learners eight years ago. Impatient for success and an income that would enable him to stay at home all day in his pyjamas he discovered self-publishing. He gave it go. By and large, readers have been kind to him. Very kind. Kind enough that two years ago he was able to give up the day job and write full-time. Mostly in his pyjamas.

Oliver Tidy has fourteen books in three series, a couple of stand-alone novels and a couple of short story collections. All available through Amazon (clickable link to Am Author Page). Among his books are The Romney and Marsh Files (British police procedurals set in Dover) and the Booker & Cash novels, a series of private detective tales set in the south of England and published by Bloodhound Books. Oliver is back living on Romney Marsh in the UK. His home. He still wakes in the night from time to time shouting about seeing his books on a shelf in Waterstones.

My reviews on the three books in the Booker & Cash series:
#1 Bad Sons
#2 He Made Me
#3 Poor Hands
