Celebrate World Read Aloud Day 2017 – open up the wonderful world of books for children and inspire them with a gift that lasts a lifetime!
Today is #WorldReadAloudDay 2017 – World Read Aloud Day motivates children, teens, and adults worldwide to celebrate the power of words and creates a community of readers taking action to show the world that the right to literacy belongs to all people. World Read Aloud Day is celebrated by millions of people in more than 100 countries thanks to those who participate and spread the word across the globe!
If you think about it, there should not be any special day to celebrate and recognise the importance of reading aloud to your (grand)children or, for that matter, anyone who loves to listen to stories and books. Children growing up with books and regularly visit a library expand their world, their visions and their knowledge as well as their vocabulary. Whether it is a lovely picture book, a beautifully crafted fairy tale or an adventurous story with perhaps dragons and knights, reading inspires children and adults alike.
As I state on my Children’s Books Page: I feel strongly about opening up the wonderful world of books for children. If we can show children how fascinating, motivating and enchanting reading is we are already providing them with a better tomorrow! Reading aloud with your kids is a lifetime gift you’ll give. By reading aloud and frequently you are showing kids that reading is fun, entertaining, and full of adventures. It sends the message: “This is what we choose to do and love to do with our time. It’s fun, it’s interesting, I learn cool stuff, and I can go to amazing places when I read.”
If you are looking for your next book to Read-Aloud to your (grand)children here are a few tips:
- Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White
- The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum
- Thomas the Tank Engine books by W. Awdry
- Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren (one of my favourite children’s authors)
- Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne
- The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister (used to be a huge favourite with my youngest)
- Matilda by Roald Dahl
- the Miffy books by Dick Bruna (Dutch author of the enchanting picture book series)
Furthermore, there are two more children’s books on my Children’s Books Page and soon another one will be added: Marko Kitti’s first book in the Jesper Jinx series!
Wishing you and your (grand)children every single day Read Aloud Day! Happy reading!
